What is a Life Coach?
Think of your coach as a thinking partner. A good coach will listen to you, support you, challenge you, encourage you and help you to overcome obstacles so you can achieve your goals and live a more fulfilling life.
A good coach will:
Create a safe space for you to be vulnerable and share your thoughts
Encourage your personal growth
Work with you to get you from point A to point B
Increase your self awareness
Ask you difficult questions
Encourage you to examine your thinking patterns and behaviors
Require you to take an honest look at yourself
Help you understand your thought processes
Help you understand how you make decisions
Help you develop strategies and create actions to overcome your fears
Help you to identify what is blocking you
Help you set achievable goals
Celebrate with you as you move forward and accomplish your goals
A good coach will not:
Tell you what to do
Do the work for you
Diagnose psychological disorders
Agree with you and tell you you are right
Encourage you to continue patterns that are not healthy for you
The coaching process involves active listening by the coach, questioning for clarity, identifying goals and working with you as a partner help facilitate your growth. Committing to personal growth is a brave and exciting undertaking which can yield life changing results.
Oftentimes, the client is aware of their limiting beliefs or of things they need to change, but they have struggled to implement lasting change and don’t know why.
A coach will encourage you and help you push through so you can achieve your goals, and will also leave you more self-aware, so you can take what you have learned and apply it to other challenges in life. You’ll have a toolbox for your future as well.
Come ready and willing to question yourself and to examine your behaviors, beliefs and thoughts.
Coaching is about raising your awareness, and committing to doing the work so you can become the best version of you that you can be.
